Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono shared the national strategic programs that Indonesia will pursue under President Prabowo Subianto's leadership during a meeting with President of the New Development Bank (NDB) Dilma Rousseff in Kazan, Russia, on Wednesday.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the BRICS Plus Summit in Kazan, which is being held from October 23 to 24, 2024.

The strategic programs, according to Sugiono, include public housing construction, school sanitation improvement, free nutritious lunch provision to students, as well as biofuel-based energy transition.

"The minister conveyed that these programs have many similarities with the NDB funding assistance programs," according to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

NDB President Rousseff said that the national strategic programs match the NDB's mandate to combat inequality.

She also shared her experiences in several BRICS countries, such as Brazil, which have successfully implemented public housing and energy transition programs.

She then encouraged Indonesia to join the NDB without delay and welcomed the potential for future cooperation.

While it was invited to join the NDB in 2022, Indonesia is still reviewing the membership process.

NDB is a multilateral development bank established by the founding countries of BRICS — Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa — to support infrastructure development projects and sustainable development in developing countries.

The NDB was established in July 2014 and is headquartered in Shanghai, China. It also has an African Regional Center in Johannesburg, South Africa.
