Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), emphasized that infrastructure development in Indonesia must be sustainable.

"We are focusing on how to ensure sustainability in infrastructure development and how to maintain the continuity of projects initiated over the last 5–10 years," he said on Wednesday.

He stressed that infrastructure development must remain consistent across administrations, preventing any disconnection between one government and the next.

"If there is a disconnect and lack of continuity in infrastructure development, progress will become ineffective and inefficient," he explained.

AHY also called for development efforts to be integrated, fair, and uniform across all regions.

"We know that not all regions in Indonesia have been optimally developed. Java is much more advanced and interconnected, but regions on other islands still face significant challenges. Some are even left behind," he noted.

He highlighted the need to focus on connectivity, integration, and equality in development to close the gap between more developed regions and those still lagging.

President Prabowo Subianto has also stressed the importance of infrastructure development, especially to create new economic growth centers.

These growth centers are essential to support the Prabowo administration's goals, economic growth targets, and the Golden Indonesia—a vision of making Indonesia an advanced nation.

AHY added that these goals are also supported by the Ministry of Public Works, which is expected to operate efficiently with good governance and prudent management.

He emphasized that all infrastructure development, including roads, bridges, water resource facilities, and settlements, must be carried out optimally.
