Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Marine and Fisheries Products Quality Control and Supervision Agency expressed readiness to maintain fish quality for the Prabowo-Gibran government's Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program.

"We must maintain the quality starting from upstream, starting from the catch. We will handle the certification for the ships and also about aquaculture," the agency head Ishartini stated here on Thursday.

Ishartini also highlighted that fisheries products from the country's aquaculture sector can support fish needs for the MBG program.

"(It is) because the (fish) production from aquaculture cultivation is greater," she remarked.

The agency head explained that her side plans to collaborate with the National Food Agency (Bapanas) for quality assurance, especially for fish supply in the MBG program.

"We will establish cooperation. We have held a meeting with Bapanas several times. This is for maintaining domestic (fish) quality," she remarked.

According to Ishartini, various Indonesian regions can supply diverse fish species, such as tuna, mackerel, and grouper, for the MBG program.

"Fisheries production in this country varies, and they can all be used to supply fish for the nutritious meal program," she explained.

According to Ishartini, several regions with fishery production in Indonesia, such as Merauke, Ambon, and Aceh, can support the MBG program.

Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono echoed his side's readiness to support the MBG program of the Prabowo-Gibran government.

He ensured that no problems would be faced in providing fishery products as one of the protein sources in the MBG menu.

One of the flagship programs of the Prabowo-Gibran administration is the MBG program in the morning and afternoon. The program aims to serve 82 million beneficiaries, including children in schools and at home as well as pregnant women.
