Jakarta (ANTARA) - The State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Ministry and the Transportation Ministry discussed efforts to reduce logistics transportation costs to support the government's food, energy, and downstream self-sufficiency programs.

SOEs Minister Erick Thohir conveyed this during his meeting with Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi on Tuesday.

Thohir highlighted that Indonesia reduced logistics costs by 13-14 percent, albeit still relatively high compared to other countries.

"Based on President Prabowo Subianto's direction to support the food, energy, and downstream self-sufficiency programs, we establish collaboration with the Transportation Ministry to suppress logistics costs," Thohir remarked after the meeting.

He believes that efficiency improvements made by state-owned transportation companies, such as Injourney Airports, Pelindo, KAI, and Jasa Marga, can reduce national logistics costs gradually.

Thohir then drew attention to the development of integrated transportation infrastructure as the main focus of both ministries to improve services and increase visits by both local and international tourists.

On the same occasion, the two ministers also discussed preparations for the 2024 year-end holidays.

Thohir said both ministries have experience in anticipating a surge in the number of tourists during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Furthermore, the minister conveyed that both parties agreed to improve their public services by cutting unnecessary and corrupt practices in the transportation sector.

"Each ministry has its own responsibility to be more efficient and cut corruption for better public services," he noted.

On the same occasion, Purwagandhi expressed hope that this cooperation would continue for the long run to realize synergy between ministries in supporting government programs.

Earlier, his side was also upgrading crossing facilities to support smooth logistics distribution and improve accessibility for people in remote areas in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto's mission to combat poverty.

This effort is included in a 100-day program or quick win for the land transportation sector in the new government era.
