Jakarta (ANTARA) - Development of Patimban Port will lower logistics costs, enable flow of goods, and reduce load of goods vehicles on highway in Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi) area, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi stated.

"Patimban Port, which is synergized with the Tanjung Priok Port, is expected to streamline the logistics time and costs. In particular, to reduce the national logistics costs and boost cost efficiency of exporting Indonesian products abroad, one of which is automotive products," Sumadi noted in a statement here on Monday.

At the Bogor Palace, West Java, on Sunday (Dec 20), President Joko Widodo virtually inaugurated the soft launch of Patimban International Port, located in Subang, West Java.

The government is presently expediting infrastructure development at Patimban Port and offering assistance and training for local people residing in the vicinity of the port to hone their entrepreneurship skills, among other aspects.

"We are also working with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries to provide fishing boats to fishermen through cooperatives," Karya stated.

The construction of Patimban Port is being conducted in three stages. Currently, construction of phase 1 of the first phase has been completed, while phase 2 of the first stage will be conducted during the 2021-2024 period.

The phase 1 construction work as a whole comprises construction of a terminal area, breakwater, seawall, revetment, backup area, access road, and a bridge connecting a 25-hectare (ha) vehicle terminal, with a cumulative capacity of 218 thousand CBU, container terminal, and packaging area of 35 ha, with a cumulative capacity of 250 thousand TEUs.

The phase 2 construction work for the 2021-2024 period will include a container terminal spanning an area of 66 ha, with a cumulative capacity of 3.75 million TEUs, vehicle terminal, with a cumulative capacity of 600 thousand CBU, and a roro terminal covering an area of 200 square meters.

The second stage will be conducted during the 2024-2025 period for construction of a container terminal, with a cumulative capacity of 5.5 million TEUs.

The third stage will be conducted during the 2026-2027 period to develop a container terminal, with a cumulative capacity of 7.5 million TEUs. Related news: Patimban Port sends maiden automative export to Brunei Darussalam
