Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Indonesian Basketball Association (Perbasi) Budisatrio Djiwandono revealed that his side planned to establish a national team to be tasked with scouting potential basketball players among the Indonesian diaspora.

Speaking to the media in Jakarta on Tuesday (October 29) evening, the newly elected leader of Perbasi noted that he would work to form the team within the first 30 days of his service.

"When I was serving as secretary-general of Perbasi, we began mapping out and identifying Indonesian diaspora abroad. I think this (endeavor) will be part of the programs of the national team I mentioned earlier," he stated.

Djiwandono then vowed to make the most of the next 30 days to set up the new organizational structure of the national association in a bid to actualize his leadership vision and mission of bringing Indonesian basketball to glory.

Responding to Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo's directive, the chairman further vouched to make all-out efforts to help Indonesian men's and women's basketball national teams to remain a regional powerhouse by securing gold medals at the upcoming SEA Games.

However, Djiwandono emphasized that his side is determined to bring Indonesian national basketball teams, including those representing the nation in the 3x3 games, to shine beyond the Southeast Asian region.

"We will also focus on enabling our men's and women's senior 3x3 teams to compete and excel in world-level competitions. Those are the targets for our national teams," he affirmed.

To that end, Djiwandono expressed hope that the new structure of Perbasi under his chairmanship would soon be established to enable the association to carry out the programs it is planning for the 2024-2028 period.
