President Prabowo Subianto has said that a strong economy is supported by an independent people's economy, he noted at the launch of the book The Prabowo Mind: The New Indonesia Economy 5.0 Manifesto at the Indonesia Defense University here Tuesday.
Juliantono said that efforts to improve people's welfare through cooperatives can be carried out by encouraging social entrepreneurship and expanding jobs.
"Cooperatives also ensure that the results of development do not only benefit some people but are distributed equally across the country," he added in a press release issued by the ministry.
According to Juliantono, the concept of cooperatives emphasizes that society is not only the beneficiary of development but also the main driver of sustainable economic growth.
To this end, he said, the cooperative development strategy must be oriented toward equitable economic growth, which does not only pursue quantitative growth but also pays attention to the equal distribution of growth results.
He noted that cooperatives' assets are currently still relatively small compared to state-owned enterprises (SOEs). The total assets of cooperatives have reached just Rp281 trillion (USD1 = around Rp15,788), far below SOEs' assets of Rp10 thousand trillion.
For this reason, one of the main focuses of the Ministry of Cooperatives is encouraging an increase in the assets of cooperatives so that they can compete more effectively.
On the same occasion, the Dean of the Security Faculty of the Indonesia Defense University, Pujo Widodo, said that in the context of Economy 5.0, cooperatives have a big potential to utilize technology and innovation to boost production efficiency and distribute benefits equally.
According to him, cooperatives can reach more people and help create a more inclusive economy.
