Hence, to this end, Umar called on schools that will organize AI and coding classes to not unduly compel their students to take up the subjects.
"I hope that students who learn (AI and coding) learn them because they choose them, not because they are forced or do not have other choices," she said here on Monday.
She affirmed that introducing AI and coding subjects in schools, as Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka proposed, presented a valuable opportunity to be globally competitive since the world currently uses technology in various fields.
She explained that the current massive internet consumption has made the subject easier to learn at almost all levels of society in Indonesia.
"And let us explore it. For instance, some subjects that may not be covered in the curriculum can be studied on the internet. The internet is a window to the world," she affirmed.
Currently, she highlighted that several game developers learn coding not from formal educational units but through the internet.
She said the positive use of the internet can inspire new ideas for the young generation in the country to achieve success in the future.
Earlier, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, in his remarks, called on the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to pursue the implementation of AI and coding subjects in elementary and junior high schools.
"We need golden generations to achieve the Golden Indonesia (vision). We want more coding experts, AI experts, machine learning experts, and others," he highlighted.
