Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has lauded the disaster response efforts to the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption in East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, conducted by his Cabinet ministers and the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).

"The President appreciated the collaboration forged among ministers under coordinating ministers and the BNPB head to quickly and properly respond (to the disasters)," State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said at the Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday.

He added that President Prabowo also praised his aides for moving swiftly to plan the relocation of eruption-hit residents to safer housing.

Hadi said that the President conveyed his praise virtually during a limited meeting with the BNPB head, ministers, chief of the National Police, and commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces on the sidelines of his visit to the United States on Tuesday evening.

The head of state convened the meeting to get updates on the measures the government has taken to help those affected by the eruptions of the volcano, he added.

During the meeting, he added, President Prabowo drew attention to the handling of refugees, the injured, as well as the deceased victims.

"(He also spotlighted) the provision of trauma healing services for children and the availability of basic needs, including medicines," he informed.

Furthermore, the minister said that Prabowo instructed Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin to pay close attention to the health of those currently taking shelter at refugee sites.

"It is because he is concerned about the tendency of illnesses attacking people after several days in a refugee camp," he added.

Hadi further said that Prabowo's willingness to allocate time for the meeting during his overseas trip reflects his genuine concern for the people affected by the eruptions.

The limited meeting took place after Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka convened a coordination meeting with several ministers earlier in the morning. Both meetings were held at the headquarters of the BNPB in Jakarta.
