"I hope that APJATI can take on a greater role in the migrant worker placement," she remarked at the APJATI National Conference here Tuesday.
Aryani explained that in the efforts to increase protection for migrant workers, the Ministry of PPMI is conducting transformation to respond to future challenges.
She affirmed that one of the efforts is to meet with several relevant parties to equalize perceptions and conduct coordination in order to improve migrant workers' protection.
According to Aryani, the PPMI Ministry intends to strengthen its regulatory role while empowering APJATI to take a more active part in placing migrant workers abroad.
"(I hope) APJATI can play a bigger role here because, based on our discussion with the (PPMI) Minister Abdul Kadir Karding, we will concentrate more on our role as the regulator," she remarked.
Furthermore, the deputy minister called for APJATI's efforts, such as improving the competence of officers in the Indonesian Migrant Worker Placement Companies (P3MI).
Aryani also encouraged APJATI to ensure the readiness of migrant workers to work abroad.
"While speaking about protection, much of it also considers the readiness of migrant workers," she remarked.
According to Aryani, migrant workers who will be placed abroad need to think about hard skills, such as competence to carry out duties, and also soft skills, for instance, mental readiness and foreign language ability.
Aryani also highlighted the importance of understanding the culture and legal rules that apply in the country of placement.
"We must encourage migrant workers to be ready to work," she noted.
