Jakarta (ANTARA) - Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions (PDT) Minister Yandri Susanto called on village heads to make the most of the village fund to stimulate economic growth while building food security through village-run enterprises (BUMDes).

During the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the PDT Ministry and Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry (KKP) at the latter's headquarters in Jakarta on Monday, Susanto expressed optimism about BUMDes being capable of tapping into the food potential of rural regions.

In view of this, he emphasized the importance of rural officials mobilizing the village fund to finance the operations of such enterprises.

"With BUMDEs growing stronger, we will be able to grow and strengthen the economy at the rural level, ultimately bringing us closer to the actualization of the target of eight percent (national economic growth) set by Mr. President (Prabowo Subianto)," he affirmed.

Earlier, in Serang, Banten Province, on Sunday (November 24), the minister highlighted that the central government is planning to allocate around Rp16 trillion (over US$1 billion) of next year's village fund for initiatives to build food security.

"Villages will receive the village fund in different amounts. Some might receive over Rp1 billion (US$63 thousand), whereas some others might get less than Rp1 billion. For 2025, the government will disburse a total of Rp71 trillion (US$4.5 billion) in the village fund," he explained.

He underscored that the PDT Ministry had established collaboration with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), National Police (Polri), KKP, Agriculture Ministry, and Forestry Ministry to ensure proper fund management.

"In short, we will work in collaboration since we cannot work alone for this cause. Communication and properly managing the fund are essential to bringing progress to villages," he emphasized.
