Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government is working to ensure staple commodities are available ahead of Christmas and New Year, according to Minister of Trade Budi Santoso.

He said on Thursday that his ministry, the food task force, and related agencies are collaborating to ensure sufficient food supplies and stabilize prices.

"(Food stocks) are safe until Christmas and New Year, with no price fluctuations so far," Santoso observed.

He added that the government will monitor price volatility in markets ahead of the year-end to ensure there is no increase in prices or scarcity of goods.

Santoso said the ministry will also focus on ensuring cooking oil availability.

"Demand has increased in some regions, but the price of MinyaKita remains stable," he said, referring to the subsidized cooking oil brand.

According to Santoso, the price of MinyaKita is currently showing a declining trend, and the government will ensure the price does not rise in any region.

The national average price of MinyaKita is Rp17,100 (around US$1.07) per liter, but its highest retail price in some areas, like Java and Sumatra, remains Rp15,700.
