Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Transportation has said that it will establish integrated service posts to support people's movement during the Christmas and New Year holiday period from December 18, 2024, to January 5, 2025.

"The Ministry of Transportation will carry out integrated monitoring posts starting from December 18, 2024, to January 5, 2025, or for 19 days," Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi informed here on Wednesday.

The post establishment refers to the school holidays, which generally start on December 18; Christmas holidays on December 25 and 26; weekends on December 21–22, December 28–29, and January 4–5; as well as New Year's holiday on January 1.

Purwagandhi said that there will be two peaks of the end-of-the-year holiday, namely on the day before Christmas (December 24) and on New Year's Eve (December 31). However, the increase in people's mobility will start from December 20, he added.

Meanwhile, the return flow is expected to start on January 1–2. It is expected to last until January 5.

The Transportation Ministry has also predicted that 53.78 percent of travelers during the year-end period will use private vehicles, meaning that there will be around 59.52 million private vehicles on the road during the holidays.

Based on the ministry's calculation, 6.54 million people will travel by bus, 3.44 million by train, 4.14 million by plane, 3.40 million by ferry, and 2.38 million people by sea.

The ministry's survey of potential national movement projected the number of travelers during the holidays at 110.67 million.

This projected number covers all provinces of Indonesia over 22 days from December 18 to January 8. The survey projects that 55.86 million people will travel in and out of provinces, and 54.81 million people will travel within provinces during the period.
