Speaking at the Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, on Monday, he underlined that in principle, the party, led by President Prabowo Subianto, is open to anyone keen on joining it.
"However, in the end, it is up to him (Jokowi), and we (Gerindra) will organize a congress in February 2025," he added.
Muzani, who is also Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), then drew attention to the meeting between Prabowo and Widodo at the former's residence in Jakarta on Friday, noting that Gerindra did not use the occasion to offer the former president a membership explicitly.
"No specific offers made. Nevertheless, in principle, Gerindra is an open party," he said.
He further explained that Widodo joined Prabowo for dinner at the invitation of his successor to reciprocate a previous meeting in the former's hometown Solo, Central Java, on November 3, 2024.
"Such visits are not unusual in our tradition. People visit each other alternately. Mr. Jokowi felt the need to visit Mr. Prabowo following Mr. Prabowo's visit to Solo," he said.
He added that the two national figures only touched upon trivial topics during Friday's meeting.
"They talked merely about light things," he said.
Earlier on December 4, Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto revealed that Widodo was no longer a part of his party.
According to him, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and former Medan mayor Bobby Nasution are also no longer affiliated with the party led by former president Megawati Soekarnoputri.
"I reiterate that Mr. Jokowi and his family are no longer part of the PDIP," Kristiyanto informed in Jakarta.
