Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto has clarified that the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), is no longer affiliated with the party.

He further stated that Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and former Medan mayor Bobby Nasution are also no longer considered PDIP cadres.

"I reiterate that Mr. Jokowi and his family are no longer part of the PDI Perjuangan," Hasto remarked during a press conference at the PDIP Party School in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Hasto highlighted that Jokowi and his family no longer align with the party's ideals, which have been championed since the era of the first president, Soekarno, and the Indonesian National Party (PNI).

"The PDI Perjuangan is driven by ideals, as evidenced by the Surakarta City DPC's notification regarding the automatic termination of Gibran's membership, based on the political party law and the party's AD/ART," he stated.

Hasto emphasized that party membership is not solely defined by a membership card (KTA) but also by a commitment to supporting a just and prosperous nation.

PDIP adheres to the principle of "satyam eva jayate," which means "truth alone triumphs."

"We believe that in the course of human history, no authoritarian power, no matter how strong, has endured. Such regimes ultimately become dark stains upon history," Hasto explained.

Earlier, on Tuesday (December 3), President Jokowi desisted from responding directly to being asked about his membership status in PDIP and simply smiled and acknowledged that he still holds a PDIP membership card.

Widodo, commonly known as Jokowi, made history as the first Indonesian president without a military background or ties to the country's prominent political families.

By the end of his tenure, Jokowi's reputation was mixed. Initially celebrated as a champion of democracy, he later faced widespread accusations of undermining Indonesia's democratic institutions.

Additionally, he invested vast sums of money into Nusantara, a controversial and incomplete new capital city in East Kalimantan.

Jokowi left office on October 20 and was succeeded by Prabowo Subianto, with Jokowi's eldest son serving as vice president.
