Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Suharyanto emphasized that his agency will provide full support for efforts to anticipate extreme weather that can trigger floods in the Jakarta metropolitan area.

"To anticipate year-end floods in the Jakarta metropolitan area, we also provide assistance in the form of equipment, budget support, and logistics," he remarked here on Tuesday.

Suharyanto affirmed that through early preparedness, the affected communities are expected to immediately receive fast and effective treatment when flooding cannot be avoided.

In addition, he explained that the BNPB is strengthening the implementation of weather modification in the provinces of Jakarta, West Java, and Banten.

This measure is taken to reduce extreme rainfall in those provinces' areas. The BNPB is synergizing with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and the Jakarta Provincial Government to minimize the burden of rainfall on land.

"The weather modification operations that have been carried out are proven to be effective, (as) reflected by the weather in Jakarta in the last few days," he remarked.

With full support from BNPB and related parties, it is hoped that the steps taken can minimize the impact of extreme weather and help residents in the Jakarta metropolitan area face flooding with greater readiness and swiftness.

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno stated here on Tuesday that a joint coordination post will be formed within the BNPB this week. The post will serve as a center for coordination among all relevant parties.

Each regional government and related government unit will send representatives to join this post so that coordination can be conducted in real-time without additional meetings.
