CoC is a holistic approach that covers the entire spectrum of mental healthcare—from education, prevention, and treatment to rehabilitation and recovery.
"The CoC is very relevant to the policies regulated in Law No. 17 of 2023 on Health and the health service transformation, which emphasizes the importance of comprehensive and sustainable mental health services," Susanti said in a UI press release issued here on Thursday.
She added that the CoC approach ensures mental health services are available to the public.
With CoC, she explained, mental health services can be carried out in an integrated and sustainable manner throughout the life of individuals with the involvement of various stakeholders.
CoC can also strengthen scientific and evidence-based mental health services, which are a strategic step to ensure that all individuals, ranging from those who are healthy to those at risk or with mental disorders, get comprehensive and sustainable services.
According to Susanti, there are three important aspects that need to be considered in strengthening the CoC approach.
They are mental health services based on the health-sickness range, stakeholder involvement, and impactful mental health services.
She explained that health-sickness range-based services not only focus on individuals with mental disorders, but also those who are mentally healthy so that they can maintain optimal mental condition.
Evidence-based mental health services also require the engagement of health professionals, the community, policymakers, families, and patients.
Mental health services must also have an impact, which requires the active involvement of policymakers, both at the local and national levels, she added.
