Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian badminton players are ready to compete for a place in the 2024 BWF World Tour Finals (BWF WTF) in Hangzhou, China, on Saturday.

In the men's singles, Jonatan Christie was slated to meet Denmark's Anders Antonsen in the semifinals.

On paper, Jonatan ranks fourth in the world, while Antonsen ranks second.

However, in their 10 previous meetings, Jonatan has won six matches, including the group match at last year's BWF WTF.

In the men's doubles, Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto were scheduled to take on Malaysia's Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin in the semifinals on Saturday.

As per statistics, the two pairs have met 11 times, with Fajar-Rian, currently ranked fourth in the world, having recorded eight wins.

However, in the previous two tournaments—the Japan Open 2024 and the Arctic Open 2024—the Malaysian pair trounced Fajar-Rian in a rubber set match.

The Indonesian pair must anticipate this by maintaining their stamina and physical fitness in the deciding round.

With Fajar-Rian not having to compete in the third match of the group phase, they may be in better shape to win the final round ticket.

Another Indonesian pair, Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, will face Danish contenders Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Ramussen in the men's doubles.

The match will mark their second meeting after the 2024 Malaysia Masters, which the Danish pair won in straight games.

Sabar-Reza, a pair not part of the national training squad, have shown impressive and consistent performances in several tournaments this year.

In addition to defeating the world number one pair, Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang, on their home turf, Sabar-Reza secured a place in the semifinals after beating Malaysia's Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in two straight games.

Expectations are high for Sabar-Reza, who also have a chance to make history in Hangzhou.
