Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ombudsman has advised the government to make village boundary determination and affirmation activities a national priority.

"Let's make the determination and affirmation of village and sub-district boundaries a national priority in the national medium-term development plan, regional medium-term development plan, and regional government work plan," Ombudsman member Dadan S. Suharmawijaya said on Thursday.

In particular, he urged related ministries, such as the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs, to prioritize village boundary determination to support administrative affairs, such as determining the permanent voter list.

According to the Ombudsman, progress in determining village boundaries would have a significant impact on population administration, village development, business licensing, and land administration.

Meanwhile, unclear village boundaries could lead to disputes related to resource claims and difficulties in issuing business licenses.

Suharmawijaya also advised the government to evaluate, compile, and set a deadline for achieving the goal of determining and affirming village and sub-district boundaries.

He suggested that the government implement Presidential Regulation Number 23 of 2021 concerning the acceleration of the One Map Policy implementation.

According to the Ombudsman's analysis, the determination and affirmation of village boundaries across Indonesia had reached 6.97 percent, or 5,219 villages out of the target of 75,526 villages, as of May 2024.

The figure increased by 0.73 percent in November 2024, bringing the total to 5,804 villages.

"As a result, the achievement of determining village boundaries by last November was only 7.7 percent," Suharmawijaya said.

He noted that there are eight provinces where progress in determining village boundaries is below 50 percent.
