Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Police's Professional and Internal Security Division (Propam) has detained 18 police personnel suspected of involvement in an alleged extortion case involving a Malaysian citizen or citizens during the Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP) festival last weekend.

National Police spokesperson Brigadier General Pol. Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko stated in his statement received on Saturday that the 18 detained officers are from the Jakarta Metro Police, the Central Jakarta Sector Police Office, and the Kemayoran Sector Police Office.

Propam will continue to investigate the officers, Andiko said, emphasizing that the National Police will not tolerate any violations by its members.

"We assure the public that there is no room for individuals who tarnish the institution's reputation. The investigation will be conducted professionally, transparently, and thoroughly," Andiko stressed.

Viral posts have accused Indonesian police of targeting attendees during the event, sparking widespread comments from netizens.

One of them comes from the X account @Twt_Rave, which posted allegations claiming that several police officers extorted Malaysian attendees at DWP. The account claims that more than 400 Malaysians were victims of extortion by Indonesian police.

It also claimed that the money collected from the extortion amounted to 9 million Malaysian ringgit, or approximately two million US dollars.

The DWP, cited as Indonesia's largest electronic music festival, took place from December 13-15 at JIExpo Kemayoran.

According to Ismaya Group, the organizers of the event, the three-day festival was attended by 10,000 people from 52 countries.
