"Once again, I remind you to prioritize savings, reduce expenses, and minimize unnecessary ceremonies. Avoid holding excessive celebrations," the president remarked while addressing the heads of regional police units at the Police Academy in Semarang, Central Java, on Wednesday.
Prabowo urged police institutions to mark their anniversaries simply, avoiding extravagant events.
"Cut back on lavish celebrations. Keep it simple — perhaps just a tumpengan at headquarters," he added, referring to the traditional conical mound of yellow rice served with various dishes, a customary feature of significant Indonesian celebrations.
The president further instructed all police officers to always stand with the people and defend their interests.
"I ask you, brothers and sisters, not on behalf of Prabowo, but on behalf of the Indonesian people, your parents, and your children—the police must stand with and defend the interests of the people," he emphasized.
Prabowo also expressed hope that the police would maintain professionalism in carrying out their duties.
"With a strong, militant, and professional police force, we will secure our future and protect the nation. The country and the people need skilled police officers," he concluded.
Data from the Ministry of Finance shows that in 2024, the National Police received a budget of Rp117.41 trillion or approximately USD7.34 billion. This figure is the third-largest among ministries and institutions, following the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing and the Ministry of Defense.
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit revealed that the Polri budget allocation for 2025 has increased to Rp126.26 trillion, as reported on the Polri website last month.
