Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the National Counter Terrorism Agency (BNPT) Commissioner General Eddy Hartono revealed that his side would offer assistance to former members of Jemaah Islamiyah (JI).

"We will provide training and assistance for activities, such as national insight, entrepreneurship, and others," he remarked at the group's disbandment at a declaration ceremony in Solo, Central Java, on December 21, as quoted in a statement from his office on Monday.

Thus, Hartono believes that former members of JI can live in harmony in a pluralistic society.

According to the agency head, the declaration event and pledge of allegiance of JI former members to the Republic of Indonesia encompass efforts to strengthen the values of the Pancasila ideology, democracy, and human rights as an important milestone towards realizing the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045.

Meanwhile, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo commended the involvement of BNPT, the police's anti-terror squad Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88), and other parties in this activity.

"This is an extraordinary collaboration with all of Jemaah Islamiyah members who pledged to return to the Republic of Indonesia," he stated.

He believes that the declaration and pledge result from a soft approach in the deradicalization program and a commitment to jointly maintaining, joining, and strengthening the Republic of Indonesia.

Former JI member Siswanto expressed support for the declaration, stating his keenness to see an end to extremist activities in Indonesia.

He had undergone a mentoring process since June 30, 2024, and expressed hope that this activity would be the final step in ensuring full integration with the state and society and ending extremism.

"Hopefully, those who have not joined could realize and join (the country)," he remarked.

JI is an Islamic militant organization in Southeast Asia seeking to establish a giant Islamic state in the territories of Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines.
