Jakarta (ANTARA) - Spokesperson for the Presidential Communication Office (PCO) Adita Irawati stated that Indonesia's recognition as the world's most generous country demonstrates the strength of the mutual cooperation culture and solidarity as the nation's identity.

Irawati affirmed that those two are important to help members of society currently affected by disasters.

"For seven years in a row, Indonesia has been awarded as the most generous country since 2017," the spokesperson remarked in a statement from her office on Tuesday.

The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), in its annual publication, the World Giving Index 2024, places Indonesia as the most generous country in the world.

Based on a survey conducted by Gallup in 140 countries, 90 percent of the respondents in Indonesia have helped strangers, donated money and time, and given donations to others.

On the other hand, Irawati remarked that from November 1 to December 13, 2024, several disasters, ranging from floods to landslides, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions, had struck more than 50 regions in Indonesia.

"President Prabowo Subianto lauded the disaster handling, especially for Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki. He was aware of the rapid emergency response action to help the affected community," the spokesperson stated.

According to Irawati, the government handled the disaster quickly through the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), related ministries and institutions, the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and local governments to assist the affected community.

Furthermore, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecast that the emergence of extreme weather will continue to occur until March-April 2025 due to the weak La Nina phenomenon, which increases rainfall by 20 percent.

President Prabowo, in his Asta Cita vision, emphasized the importance of preparedness and solidarity in dealing with disasters.

Authorities should be alert and agile in responding to natural disasters and provide a fast and appropriate emergency response.

The president also called on developing resilient and sustainable infrastructure, such as buildings, roads, government offices, and other infrastructure, to be disaster-resistant to reduce the impact of disasters.

Lastly, solidarity and mutual cooperation are necessary during the disaster to accommodate faster recovery and rehabilitation.
