The visit, facilitated by Professor Ito, aimed to encourage dialogue between Islam and Buddhism, in line with the foundation's world peace mission titled "We Are All One."
"Through this dialogue, we want to learn about Islam and deepen mutual understanding. We hope to contribute to the development of friendship between the two countries, not only in terms of religion but also culture and art," the 164th Head Priest of Miidera Temple, Chori Geka Toshihiko Fuke, noted in his statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.
During the meeting, the Head Priest presented handwritten calligraphy as a symbol of friendship to the founders of the Sakuranesia Society Foundation, Tovic and Sakura Ijuin.
Tovic expressed hope that the dialogue at Miidera would strengthen harmony between Indonesia and Japan.
"We want to introduce Islam as a religion of compassion and love, which serves humanity and nature. This dialogue is an important step in creating harmony between nations," he remarked.
The visit also highlighted the beauty of Miidera Temple, famous for its national treasures, such as the Kondo (Golden Hall), the three-storied pagoda, and the bell tower known as the "Miidera Twilight Bell."
From its elevated location, visitors can enjoy views of Lake Biwa and the beauty of nature in every season.
The head priest guided the delegation directly around the temple complex, which has a history dating back over 1,300 years and offers stunning views of Lake Biwa and the beauty of nature.
Professor Ito, an academic and art researcher with a background as a pharmacy doctor from Kyoto University, mediated the Islam-Buddhism dialogue.
As a National Geographic Explorer and Lecturer at Osaka University, Professor Ito has extensive experience in art and culture research. With his expertise, he played a major role in creating a meaningful discussion forum between the two religions.
