Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chief of the National Police (Polri), General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, reviewed on Tuesday the readiness of Merak Port, Banten, for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

"We have checked (Merak Port) directly and conducted Zoom meetings with (officials in) several regions to ensure service and security standards; I see that they are improving," Prabowo said at the port on Tuesday, according to an official statement released by Polri.

Based on the updated data, Prabowo informed that passenger numbers at Merak Port as of Tuesday were not as high as the previous year.

However, the port's management remained on standby to anticipate passenger density.

During the visit, he also reviewed the security system and the online ticket service.

"We checked the security system, including the yellow and red systems, how the online ticket service is carried out, and the buffer zone. We will continue to evaluate," he said.

Prabowo also interacted with prospective passengers who were about to cross through the port and distributed food, mineral water, and vitamins.

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Pratikno; Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi; and Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, also joined the activity along with Commander of the Indonesian Military, General Agus Subiyanto; Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Suharyanto; and Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Dwikorita Karnawati.

Meanwhile, according to the Polri Traffic Corps data as of December 23rd, Merak Port and Ciwandan Port in Banten were reported to be quite crowded.

On that day, they recorded 156 trips, 58,342 passengers, 1,664 two-wheeled vehicles, and 7,152 four-wheeled vehicles.
