"Until tonight, Christmas celebrations and worship have been proceeding in an orderly manner throughout Indonesia," he said at Bandung Cathedral on Tuesday.
During his visit, he urged regional heads across Indonesia to continue to monitor Christmas celebrations so that they can take place peacefully.
He also lauded all parties who have worked hard to create a peaceful atmosphere during Christmas.
"The Ministry of Home Affairs has asked all regional heads to be present tonight (Christmas Eve), not only to wish Merry Christmas but also to ensure that the entire series of celebrations and worship can proceed safely, in an orderly, and peaceful manner," he said.
On the same occasion, acting West Java Governor Bey Machmudin offered Christmas greetings and assured that the provincial government has prioritized the safety and comfort of Christians and Catholics during their worship.
He expressed gratitude for Christmas celebrations in Bandung city proceeding smoothly so far.
