The event implementation is part of the government's continuous efforts to prevent and eradicate online gambling in Indonesia, said Deputy Minister of Komdigi Nezar Patria here on Sunday.
The fun-run activity is considered unique because people can do activities outdoors to spend their vacation time, and at the same time, it serves as a reminder to actively report suspicious activities related to online gambling practices.
"As what President Prabowo has said, online gambling is a big issue, a big enemy for the Indonesian people. Therefore, this morning, we want to unite our determination and realize a collaboration to ignite the spirit to eradicate online gambling," Patria stated.
Between 2017 and December 2024, the government has taken down more than 5.5 million online gambling content in Indonesia.
However, online gambling practices still exist through various kinds of loopholes that are used by irresponsible individuals.
Based on the government's monitoring, every day, there are four million Indonesians who actively carry out online gambling, and of that number, there are around 80 thousand minors who play online gambling.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre estimated that the transaction value of online gambling games in Indonesia reached nearly Rp900 trillion per year.
Therefore, Deputy Minister Patria emphasized that cross-sector cooperation is the key to solving online gambling problems.
"We must stay away from and eradicate online gambling! Let's be committed to fighting online gambling in our environment and workplaces," he stated.
