The meeting, aimed at enhancing aviation safety, included the CEOs of state-owned Garuda Indonesia, Citilink, Pelita Air, InJourney Airports, and AirNav Indonesia.
"Today, I held a meeting with Garuda, Citilink, Pelita, Airports, and AirNav to discuss three key issues," Thohir stated during a press conference in Jakarta.
He first emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of both domestic and international flights. Recent aircraft accidents in several countries were a major concern at the meeting.
"First, over the past 10 days, we have seen many aircraft accidents with high casualties, such as the one in South Korea recently," he said.
He noted that recent plane crashes in Korea, Canada, and Norway underscore the need for preventive measures. All airlines and airport operators are expected to ensure that all aircraft meet strict safety standards.
Second, flight crew fatigue levels must be reviewed to ensure aviation safety. Thohir emphasized the need to monitor aircraft conditions and crew performance.
"Of course, we reviewed the current condition of the aircraft owned by each airline to ensure that we really maintain it and also evaluated crew fatigue levels," he remarked.
Thohir also highlighted the importance of early warnings for potential threats, such as severe weather and bird strikes, that could disrupt flights.
"Several airports are under review, with measures being developed to address incidents such as severe weather and bird strikes involving engines. We also discussed with AirNav to enhance early warning systems," he said.
