At the closing of the Christmas and New Year Command Post in Jakarta on Monday, he noted that this figure was derived from a mapping of people's movements conducted by his ministry in collaboration with other stakeholders.
Purwagandhi highlighted that based on data, the total movement of people during the holiday period from December 18, 2024, to January 5, 2025, amounted to 225.86 million trips.
The minister indicated that this year's total number of travelers during the holiday period represented a 14.46 percent decrease compared to a survey predicting potential movement of 110.67 million people for the Christmas and New Year period.
"It reflected a decline of 24.92 percent compared to the realization during the 2023 Christmas and 2024 New Year, namely 126 million," he remarked.
He noted that a follow-up survey identified several factors contributing to the decline in year-end travel, including weather conditions, non-granting of permits, and insufficient funds.
"The upcoming Eid al-Fitr celebration in March 2025 is the main reason for some people to cancel their trips," he remarked.
Purwagandhi affirmed that his ministry and other stakeholders, including regional governments, have made preparations, including creating several policies, disseminating information on policies, establishing command posts, and conducting monitoring and evaluation during the year-end holiday period.
"Alhamdulillah, (thank God), in general, (overall transportation during) the 2024-2025 Christmas and New Year (period) proceeded smoothly and safely," the minister stated.
