Jakarta (ANTARA) - Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq ensured that the ministry will supervise waste management to run effectively during the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program commenced simultaneously starting Monday.

"I will take samples even though, technically, we have issued a circular. However, it is more effective if we see it directly," Nurofiq remarked when met after the inauguration of high-ranking officials at the ministry in Jakarta, Monday.

The minister emphasized that this monitoring aims to verify whether conditions align with those outlined in the circular.

Through the monitoring, his side can make necessary adjustments and formulate appropriate mitigation strategies to ensure the success of the MBG program in terms of waste management.

Effective waste management is essential as waste generation can arise not only from types of food waste that fall into the organic waste category but also from inorganic materials, such as plastics and paper.

In its implementation, coordination will also be carried out with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) and the provincial government, including Jakarta, due to its proximity to the Environment Ministry.

"However, tonight, we have received reports from 16 regions related to the implementation of the free nutritious meal (program)," Nurofiq stated.

The MBG Program, which is one of the priority programs of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, began today, marked by simultaneous implementation at 190 locations across 26 provinces.

According to Head of Communications of the Indonesian Presidential Office, Hasan Nasbi, in a statement last Sunday (Jan 5), the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) noted that 190 Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG), or MBG Kitchens, are ready to operate.
