Minister Saifullah Yusuf met with Indramayu District Head Nina Agustina on Monday to discuss progress in developing the fishermen's village.
"We aim to create a pilot project with tangible and significant impacts, ensuring both beneficiaries and our partners are satisfied," Yusuf said.
Located in Eretan Kulon, the fishermen's village is a pilot initiative by the ministry in collaboration with the Indramayu district government, the National Alms Agency (BAZNAS), and the non-profit organization Habitat for Humanity.
According to Yusuf, the village will relocate 93 families affected by tidal flooding. The 93 houses will be built on 1.6 hectares of land, with each house constructed on plots measuring 60 square meters.
The Director-General of Social Empowerment, Mira Riyati Kurniasih, stated that the physical construction of the housing is targeted to be 90 percent complete by January 15.
Relocated residents will benefit from various facilities aimed at restoring social functions and improving the quality of life for the elderly, children, and people with disabilities, she added.
The village will include a community center, a mosque, a micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) center, child-friendly and elderly-friendly parks, sports facilities, public toilets, and proper access roads, Kurniasih explained.
The ministry and local government also plan to launch an empowerment program for mothers in the village.
"They will receive training to produce processed fish-based foods such as fish balls and fish nuggets, which they can sell," Indramayu District Head Agustina said.
Additionally, the ministry will provide residents of Eretan Kulon village with training in welding, eco-printing, digital marketing, and other skills to enhance their living standards and reduce their dependence on fishing as their sole livelihood.
