Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) officially named Patrick Kluivert as the new coach of the national football team on its website on Wednesday.

PSSI also announced Kluivert's appointment in a post on its official Instagram account.

In the post, the association introduced Kluivert with a video of him playing for Ajax Amsterdam, Barcelona FC, and the Dutch national team.

Rumors of Kluivert being chosen as the new coach of the national football team had circulated after the PSSI parted ways with the previous coach Shin Tae-yong on Monday.

Kluivert has signed a two-year contract from 2025–2027, with the option to extend the contract. He is expected to help Indonesia qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

He will be assisted by two assistants from the Netherlands, namely Alex Pastoor and Denny Landzaat. Two local coaches will assist him as well.

During his football career, Kluivert has played for big clubs such as Ajax Amsterdam, AC Milan, and Barcelona FC. In his coaching career, he has mostly served as an assistant coach.

Since his retirement in 2008 from LOSC Lille, Kluivert has coached two teams: the Curacao national team (March 2015–June 2016, May 2021–October 2021) and the Turkish club Adana Demirspor (July 2023–December 2023).

Under his tutelage, Curacao chalked up four wins, four draws, and six losses from 14 matches, while Adana Demirspor recorded eight wins, six draws, and six losses.

Kluivert is scheduled to arrive in Indonesia on January 11, 2025, and will be introduced to the public the following day.

He will debut as the Indonesian football team coach in two third-round matches of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Australia (March 20) and Bahrain (March 25).
