Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, on Friday outlined the government's plan to hold a retreat for regional heads after their inauguration.

"Coordination is needed between the central and local governments. The President wants all regional heads to gather, just like what ministers and agency heads did in Magelang, so we can share the same perspective," he said here.

He explained that the retreat agenda for regional heads will be similar to that followed by the Red and White Cabinet members. The purpose of the retreat will be to synchronize or align perspectives with the central government.

The regional heads elected in the 2024 Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) will be inaugurated simultaneously after the Constitutional Court (MK) resolves all disputes regarding Pilkada.

Mahendra emphasized that synchronization between regional leaders and the central government is essential as local governments serve as extensions of the central government in implementing programs in the regions.

However, he said that it is yet to be discussed whether the retreat will take place at the same location as the Cabinet retreat, that is, Bukit Tidar, Magelang.

The Cabinet retreat was one of President Prabowo Subianto's initiatives to enhance coordination and unity among members of the Red and White Cabinet.

Shortly after the Cabinet formation, all members participated in a retreat from October 24–27, 2024, at the Military Academy in Magelang, Central Java.

Moreover, regarding stepping up coordination with local governments, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka earlier proposed to Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian that the next National Coordination Meeting be held at the Military Academy in Magelang.

He added that unifying the vision of regional leaders is crucial for ensuring that their policies are on target.
