Prabowo noted that PM Shigeru Ishiba's visit to Indonesia on Saturday demonstrated both countries' commitment to intensifying relations and collaboration across various sectors.
“Your Excellency Mr. Ishiba Shigeru, along with your entire delegation from Japan, I would like to warmly welcome you to Indonesia. It is a great honor for us, as we consider Japan a long-time partner and friend,” President Prabowo stated during the meeting.
At the event, President Prabowo outlined some key priorities of his administration, including the goals of achieving food and energy self-sufficiency, advancing industrialization and the downstreaming processes, and eradicating hunger.
He invited the Japanese government to engage in Indonesia’s priority programs, particularly in the downstreaming of all natural resources.
“We welcome Japanese industries to participate in our downstreaming initiatives in various natural resource sectors,” he remarked.
Following President Prabowo’s remarks, PM Ishiba reminisced about their previous meeting at the APEC Summit in Lima, Peru, on November 13-15, 2024.
He also reflected on his visit to Indonesia 34 years ago while serving as a member of the Japanese House of Representatives.
“I am impressed by Indonesia's progress so far. I wish to contribute to and collaborate with Indonesia in the areas mentioned by President Prabowo,” PM Ishiba stated.
He noted that Indonesia and Japan share many similarities, underscoring the importance of both nations adopting a balanced approach in their diplomatic policies.
The bilateral meeting took place after a one-on-one discussion between President Prabowo and PM Ishiba at the President's office.
