Jakarta (ANTARA) - Special kitchens set up to prepare and distribute food under the Free Nutritious Meals program share the responsibility of managing the food waste generated, the Presidential Communication Office (PCO) stated.

Speaking to the media in South Tangerang, Banten, on Monday, PCO's spokesperson Adita Irawati noted that the government had provided technical guidelines for food waste management to the kitchens officially known as the nutrition fulfillment service unit (SPPG).

"The head of an SPPG is also responsible for food waste management. The government, through the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), will always remind the leader of each SPPG to monitor this matter," she remarked.

Irawati then pointed out that the food waste management guidelines have been designed to ensure that the flagship program of President Prabowo Subianto does not lead to environmental pollution, aligning with rules enforced by the Ministry of Environment.

Earlier, on January 6, during the nationwide launch of the program, PCO Head Hasan Nasbi emphasized that the government seeks to embrace local wisdom to tackle food waste resulting from the nutritional initiative.

"We aim to utilize local wisdom to handle, process, and minimize food waste," he told the media in Jakarta.

He explained that by harnessing local wisdom, the government would be able to adjust the program's implementation to food resources available in each region.

He stated that such a local wisdom-based approach has been adopted in Cimahi City of West Java.

In this context, the official noted that owing to the plentiful supply from dairy farms around Cimahi, the government might be able to include milk in meal packages more frequently in the city than in those without similar access to milk sources.

Moreover, Nasbi remarked that the program's implementation in Cimahi focuses on waste management by utilizing glass bottles for milk, thereby reducing additional waste production.
