"We utilize local wisdom to overcome waste, to process waste, and minimize waste in this program," he noted on Monday.
He affirmed that optimizing local wisdom also allows for adapting the program's ingredients to utilize food sources available in surrounding areas.
One of the practices of utilizing local wisdom has been adopted in the MBG program in Cimahi, West Java.
This program will increase the frequency of milk provision, capitalizing on the plentiful supply from dairy farms around Cimahi, thereby making milk more accessible.
Moreover, Nasbi said the MBG program in Cimahi emphasizes waste management by using glass bottles for milk, thereby minimizing extra waste generated during food distribution.
MBG is a priority program in the Prabowo-Gibran administration, with 190 public kitchens already operating in 26 provinces.
These provinces comprise Aceh, Bali, West Sumatra, North Sumatra, Riau Islands, Riau, Lampung, Banten, West Java, Jakarta, Central Java, East Java, Yogyakarta, and Gorontalo.
The public kitchens are also located in West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Maluku, North Maluku, East Nusa Tenggara, West Papua, and South Papua.
Each kitchen is led by one head appointed by the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). The head of the public kitchen works with a nutritionist and an accountant to ensure strict supervision of nutritional quality and smooth food distribution.
In addition to guaranteeing adequate nutrition in each meal prepared, the public kitchen is also tasked with supervising cleanliness standards and managing nutritional quality and waste in each kitchen.
Nasbi described this program as a historic milestone for Indonesia, where the government implements a national-scale nutritional fulfillment program for toddlers, students, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers.
