During the awards ceremony in Jakarta on Wednesday (January 15), BNN Head Police Commissioner Gen. Marthinus Hukom remarked that this accolade signifies the international community's recognition of Indonesia's commitment to anti-drug abuse measures on a global scale.
According to BNN's statement released here on Thursday, Hukom attributed the agency's achievements to the support provided by the DEA, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Indonesia's Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), and the Indonesian public.
He then alluded to the US government's plan to shut down the DEA Office in Indonesia, urging the US Embassy to reconsider the decision since the agency has played a crucial role in assisting the Southeast Asian country.
The award was conferred by DEA's Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Asia-Pacific Division, Mark Snyder, and DEA's Indonesia Country Attaché, Bryan Barger, to BNN Head Hukom and head of BNN's Information Technology Sub-directorate, Satria Oktoreza.
US Ambassador to Indonesia Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir, who attended the ceremony, emphasized the importance of international joint measures in addressing narcotics abuse and trafficking issues.
She noted that the collaboration to fight drug abuse forged between Indonesia and the US has driven notable improvements in narcotics control at both national and international levels.
On the occasion, the DEA also presented an award to the PPATK Head, Ivan Yustiavandana, for his vital role in combating money laundering practices linked to narcotics crimes.
Further in its statement, the BNN expressed its keenness to step up measures against drug abuse and trafficking with the support of the Indonesian public and foreign partners.
