Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has asked the Red and White Cabinet to prioritize strengthening the local supply chain for raw ingredients used in the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, with a specific focus on eggs.

This was conveyed by Minister of National Development Planning, Rachmat Pambudy, who highlighted the President's emphasis on utilizing locally produced commodities for the MBG program.

"The President has asked us to ensure the stability of the production supply chain and underscored the importance of eggs as a key source of nutritious food," Pambudy stated during a press conference at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday.

President Prabowo further suggested the establishment of additional chicken farms in areas where the MBG program is being implemented to secure the supply of eggs if necessary.

On the same occasion, head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, said that the President has also called for the empowerment of local resources and local supply chains to make the MBG program a success.

He informed that Prabowo has asked ministries, including the Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions (PDT) and the Ministry of Cooperatives, to support the strengthening of the production supply chain.

"If we aim to serve 82.9 million people through this program, we will need 82.9 million eggs. This requires a significant increase in production capacity to meet the demand," he added.

PDT Minister Yandri Susanto informed that he is planning to boost the role of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) to strengthen the local production supply chain for MBG.

He said he is optimistic that villages in Indonesia, especially those producing commodities, can meet the raw ingredients needs for the MBG program.

"For raw ingredients production, we will boost the BUMDes. There will be villages producing rice, corn, fish, and others. We are ready to succeed this program," Susanto emphasized.
