Karnavian made this statement during a visit to a densely populated and uninhabitable area in Johar Baru Sub-district here on Monday (January 20).
According to the minister, the area is densely populated, and its residents face various challenges in such environments.
"We expect that the construction of livable houses will create a healthier environment," he affirmed.
The minister recommended that individuals consider vertical housing as it offers greater comfort and safety in the long term.
He also emphasized that the vertical building design offers several benefits, including a stronger building structure and a healthier environment.
On the other hand, he assessed that the vertical design of house buildings offers more benefits compared to home renovation which would only offer a temporary fix as the building's structure remains unchanged.
"But remember, home renovation is only temporary, only for a short time, because the structure is not changed," he pointed out.
However, Karnavian clarified that he would not impose vertical construction on residents, as he respects their preferences, especially since many currently favor renovations.
Meanwhile, Housing and Settlement Minister Maruarar Sirait announced a one-week timeframe for community members to mull over the government's suggestion.
He encouraged the public to carefully consider this opportunity, emphasizing that the livable house program may not be available again in the future.
The decent house program in Johar Baru Sub-district was funded by the Buddha Tzu Chi Foundation through its corporate social responsibility (CSR).
