Bantul, Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana stated that the Clean Tourism Movement will be progressively rolled out across five super-priority tourist destinations after it was launched on Parangtritis Beach, Bantul, Yogyakarta, on Thursday.

"This program will gradually be implemented in five super-priority tourist destinations, namely Lake Toba, Borobudur, Mandalika, Labuan Bajo, and Likupang, and three major destinations of Bali, Jakarta, and Yogyakarta-Solo-Semarang," she remarked here on Thursday.

The minister noted that the Clean Tourism Movement is expected to not only improve the cleanliness of tourist destinations but also serve as an inspiring model for various other tourist areas in Indonesia.

"Hopefully, it will not only be a momentary action but can also build long-term habits and awareness in protecting the environment," she remarked.

She also expressed hope that the movement would inspire other tourist destinations in Indonesia to collectively uphold cleanliness and preserve nature, as well as build a foundation for sustainable and competitive tourism at the global level.

As part of the movement, the Ministry of Tourism has also formed a Clean Tourism Movement Task Force dedicated to promoting the importance of sanitation and continuously reviewing the availability of clean toilets as one of the main amenities reflecting the quality of tourist destinations.

Wardhana is also optimistic that the program will bolster Indonesian tourism's competitiveness, in accordance with the health and hygiene aspects of the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI).

"This is a joint movement that was designed to realize real and long-term impact for the environment and Indonesian tourism's competitiveness," she remarked.

She explained that Parangtritis Beach was selected as the launch site for the program due to its significance as one of the tourism icons in Yogyakarta.
