Bali (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), is aiming to ensure airports in Indonesia get included in the list of top 10 airports in the world.

During the Airport Service Optimization Coordination Meeting in Bali on Thursday, he expressed the hope of achieving the target by 2029.

“The number one position is Doha International Airport in Qatar, and number two is Changi in Singapore—those two airports are good, so this list is not made up. We should be able to be in the top 10 (best airports in the world) in 2029,” he said.

He emphasized that it is not impossible for Indonesia to enter the top 10, considering that Istanbul International Airport in Turkey is on the list, based on Skytrax 2024 data.

Currently, the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Banten is ranked 28th in the world, up 15 places from 2023, while I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali is ranked 74th, or up six places.

To improve the ranking of airports, the minister held a dialogue with the ambassadors of some countries to discuss the opening of direct flights to Indonesia.

Recently, Minister AHY met the British Ambassador to Indonesia to discuss bilateral cooperation as well as urge the UK to start direct flights not only on the London-Jakarta route, but also the London-Bali route.

"We may have the spirit to break into the top 10 list, meaning that if we are serious and earnest we can pursue the improve in ranking. Many world-class airports in various countries also started from zero from improvements and refinements, therefore we must not lose our efforts," the minister said.
