Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Arifah Fauzi, emphasized the need for local governments to incorporate gender perspectives when formulating regional policies.

"We all know that Jakarta serves as a benchmark for other regions in Indonesia, especially regarding regional policies and regulations," Fauzi stated here on Friday.

"It is crucial for the Jakarta Provincial Government to deepen (its understanding) of gender issues (and integrate gender perspectives) when developing regulations and policies, particularly those related to women and children," the minister remarked.

Fauzi made the statement in response to the issuance of Jakarta Governor's Regulation Number 2 of 2025 on procedures for marriage and divorce.

The minister pointed out that local governments must adopt a gender perspective in making policies. This aligns with the Ministry of PPPA's commitment to promoting gender equality, as detailed in Ministerial Regulation Number 6 of 2023.

The ministerial regulation delineates the parameters for gender equality in laws and regulations as well as other legal instruments.

According to Fauzi, if policymakers do not understand and prioritize gender perspectives, they may create policies that could discriminate against women.

"We do not want such policies to worsen the conditions for women, especially since we have worked hard to uphold the dignity of Indonesian women. Therefore, we need more discussions to find effective solutions to these issues," she emphasized.

The minister mentioned that her team plans to conduct a study whose results can serve as a reference for the Jakarta provincial government in formulating policies addressing women's and children's issues.

"There needs to be further discussion on how to find the best solutions to this problem. We will prepare a study based on the ministry's perspective that can guide the Jakarta Provincial Government in addressing the controversies surrounding this governor's regulation," Fauzi stated.
