Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's inclusion as a full member of the BRICS aims to bridge the differences in interests between developed and developing countries while also yielding economic benefits, according to Foreign Minister Sugiono.

"Indonesia wants to foster cooperation and collaboration with neighboring countries in the region and the global community," Sugiono stated during a panel discussion at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos on Thursday (Jan 23).

He emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to always pursuing a constructive approach in its cooperation at the global level, including through its participation in BRICS.

Furthermore, he remarked that Indonesian diplomacy under President Prabowo Subianto would focus on upholding the country’s sovereignty and improving the welfare of citizens, as outlined in the 1945 Constitution.

"The prerequisite for growth is peace and stability. That is why Indonesia is open to cooperation because we have an obligation to support national priorities and serve the Indonesian people," Sugiono affirmed.

Meanwhile, Timor-Leste President Jose Ramos-Horta, who was also a speaker in the panel discussion, praised Indonesia's diplomatic efforts and its assistance in Timor-Leste's accession as a full member of ASEAN.

The panel discussion also featured Speaker of the Philippine House of Representatives Martin Romualdez, Chairman of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) Michael Froman, and CEO of Zurich Insurance Group for the Asia-Pacific region.

In addition to being a speaker in the panel session on efforts to navigate the conflict in the Asia Pacific, FM Sugiono participated in a diplomatic discussion on the Myanmar issue on Wednesday (Jan 22) local time.

On the sidelines of the WEF 2025 agenda in Davos, the Indonesian foreign minister also held bilateral meetings with Yemeni Vice President Aidarous Al-Zoubaidi, Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, and Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud.
