"Only with unity among ASEAN countries, only with good cooperation among us, can our voices be heard more," Prabowo said while delivering a joint press statement with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.
"We can be reckoned with more by powers that are much greater than us," he added.
According to the President, the world is currently facing increasing tensions and uncertainty.
In a situation like this, ongoing synergy and consultation between Indonesia, Malaysia, and other ASEAN members is vital, he said.
The President also highlighted the great potential of ASEAN, which has a population of more than 600 million people, saying the region is not inferior to the European Union.
Southeast Asia, he noted, is recognized by the world as a region with rapid economic growth as well as a region that has long remained a peaceful zone without conflict between countries.
"For that, Prime Minister Anwar and I, with very intensive meetings, discussed many issues of cooperation. The point is the political decision, the political will that Indonesia and Malaysia must work closely together," Prabowo informed.
Touching upon their bilateral relations, he said that Indonesia is keen to resolve any issues with Malaysia, including those related to migrant workers.
"Technical problems we can solve. The important thing is the political and strategic will," the President added.
