Balikpapan, E Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) has sought support from the Ministry of Public Works to complete the construction of several toll road segments in Indonesia's new capital, Nusantara, in East Kalimantan.

"We have sent a letter to the Ministry of Public Works asking for support for the completion of the 1A, 1B, 3A, 6A, and 6B toll road segments," OIKN Head Basuki Hadimuljono informed here on Wednesday.

He highlighted funding challenges due to the government's budget-saving policy.

However, it is hoped that the Nusantara toll road project will not be affected by the budget-saving policy, or at least, the completion deadline will be rescheduled to 2026.

The progress of the 3A and 3B toll road segments has currently reached 60 percent.

Hadimuljono said that the construction of the 5A, 5B, 6A, and 6B segments leading to Nusantara is on target and will be completed by July 2025.

"That target does not include the 1A and 1B elevated toll road segments," he added.

To further shorten the distance between Balikpapan city and the new capital, the segments have been designed using an elevated road concept, with physical construction targeted to begin this year.

The elevated toll road will connect Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan International Airport of Balikpapan city with Nusantara via a route adjacent to the Balikpapan-Samarinda Toll Road.

The Balikpapan city government and other stakeholders are seeking to accelerate efforts to decide the location site so that land acquisition can be realized soon.

"The land acquisition is a challenge because the 1A toll road segment is located in the middle of the city," he said.

As for the 1B toll road segment, the construction has begun and the payment for the land acquisition is expected to be completed in the next two months.
