“It is currently being investigated. I have told the ministry to do so,” Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), said here on Friday.
A thorough investigation into the case is needed, he stressed, so that no individual or company can act arbitrarily against Indonesia’s maritime sovereignty.
“We must to ensure that no one can do as they please,” the minister said.
AHY further emphasized that the government will provide legal certainty for land within the territory of the Republic of Indonesia.
“We are arranging regional space nationally, provincially, as well as in districts and cities with detailed spatial planning,” he informed.
In carrying out spatial planning, he added, it is important to develop a region in accordance with its designation.
“For example, do not convert all rice fields into housing or into industry," he expounded.
Earlier, Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Minister Nusron Wahid fired six ministry employees and slapped heavy sanctions on two others following the discovery of the 30-kilometer sea fence in Tangerang.
The ministry also revoked land use rights (SGHB) for 50 of the 263 plots and 17 land ownership rights (SHM).
Of the 50 SGHB/SHM certificates that were revoked, one belongs to PT Intan Agung Makmur, a subsidiary of the Agung Sedayu Group of companies, owned by tycoon Sugianto Kusuma alias Aguan.
According to Wahid, the certificates did not comply with the applicable legal provisions. He said that the results of the review of the land boundaries and coastlines showed violations of legal provisions.
Other SGHBs are being examined to ensure compliance with the coastline.
On January 15, 2025, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries sealed off the sea fence whose discovery had left both the government and the public mystified.
Four days later, under the orders of President Prabowo Subianto, the Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) commenced the removal of the sea fence, which stretches across 16 villages in six sub-districts.
