During a working meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) at the Parliament Complex here on Wednesday, Nurofiq said that Indonesia remains committed to taking steps to address climate issues even though the United States, under Donald Trump's leadership, has withdrawn from the Paris Agreement.
Referring to President Prabowo's statement at the G20 Summit in Brazil in November 2024, Nurofiq said that his side is committed to taking steps to deal with climate issues to check the rise in Earth's temperature.
"This is the final commitment conveyed by the President to this day, so despite President Trump withdrawing from the Paris Agreement, we still hold on to the direction of the President (Prabowo) official speech at the G20 in Brazil," he added.
The steps to handle climate issues will be realized through the programs carried out by the Ministry of Environment in 2025 by referring to Asta Cita.
They will include boosting independence in terms of water and green economy, downstreaming natural resource-based industries, and pushing climate-resilient development.
The ministry's theme for environmental development for this year is the optimization of the circular economy and the carbon economic value to encourage food and energy security to realize sustainable development.
"There are main performance indicators that we aim to achieve in accordance with the final draft of the National Medium-Term Development Plan, which is waiting for ratification," Nurofiq informed.
Those indicators include a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, waste handling, low-carbon development, and environmental quality.
