Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has ensured the smooth distribution of logistical aid to alleviate the suffering of tornado victims in Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi.

"We already have a joint team distributing logistical aid since Friday to residents affected by the disaster in Luwu," head of the BNPB's Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said in a statement released by his office on Saturday.

He assured that the logistical aid distributed in the form of food packages is sufficient to meet the needs of the affected residents.

Muhari informed that the tornado did not cause fatalities in South Larompong and East Lamasi sub-districts, Luwu, on Friday.

However, temporary data from BNPB showed that 50 families were affected by it and all of them received assistance from a joint team of officers.

Besides meeting the victims' needs, the joint team of officers with the Luwu Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) also collected data on the impact of the disaster, Muhari said.

Based on reports received as of Saturday afternoon, out of the total 50 houses affected by the tornado, one house suffered light damage and three houses sustained heavy damage, he informed.

"Cleaning up fallen tree material has also been carried out," he added.
