Jakarta (ANTARA) - Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning (ATR) Minister Nusron Wahid emphasized that the fire that broke out at his ministry's headquarters last night was purely accidental, not an attempt to damage documents linked to agrarian cases.

"The fire occurred in the office of the Public Relations Bureau, and there were no right-to-build and right-to-cultivate certificates or related documents there. Thus, this event was not an attempt to interfere with evidence of cases," he remarked in Jakarta on Sunday.

Wahid has also visited the scene to inspect the office's condition in the wake of the fire.

"The fire, which was a minor accident, occurred at the Public Relations Bureau on the first floor at around 11 p.m. Thank God, firefighters acted very swiftly to extinguish the fire," he stated.

The minister also appreciated the South Jakarta government and its fire brigade for their quick response to the fire.

"I would like to extend my deep gratitude to Mr. South Jakarta Mayor and the South Jakarta Fire Brigade. Hopefully, we will not encounter any further issues," he stated.

On a separate occasion, Head of the ATR Ministry's Public Relations Bureau Harison Mocodompis reported that, according to an initial investigation, the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit.

"Currently, the authorities are investigating the accident to determine the exact cause of the fire," he pointed out.

He noted that a police line has been installed in the fire scene to facilitate the investigation.

"The authorities have also begun to collect data on the documents and equipment damaged by the fire," he added.

Furthermore, the official also highlighted the need to evaluate the security and fire mitigation systems to prevent similar accidents in the future.
