Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, said he discussed collaborative ventures in renewable energy investments with Masdar CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi.

The meeting took place as part of the World Government Summit (WGS) series in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Hartarto said in a statement from his office issued on Wednesday.

He stated that his discussion with Al Ramahi focused on cooperation in the renewable energy sector, specifically the partnership between Indonesia and the UAE on the Cirata Floating Solar Power Plant (PLTS) project. This facility, located in Purwakarta, West Java, will be the largest floating solar power plant in Southeast Asia.

Masdar, the Emirati state-owned renewable energy company, has collaborated with Indonesia’s state-owned electricity company, PT PLN, on this project since November 2023.

As the largest floating solar power plant in ASEAN, with a capacity of 192 Megawatt Peak (MWp), the Cirata Solar Power Plant can supply electricity to 50,000 households.

“Cirata PLTS raises new hopes for Indonesia's efforts to achieve sustainable energy. This collaboration demonstrates Masdar's commitment to supporting the development of renewable energy in Indonesia," Hartarto remarked.

The meeting also included discussions on expanding cooperation between PLN and Masdar to increase the capacity of Cirata PLTS in the next phase. With a reservoir area spanning approximately 6,200 hectares, Cirata’s development potential could exceed 1,000 MWp, according to the minister.

He noted that this expanded cooperation began with the signing of the Cirata Phase II Joint Development Study Agreement last year.

To support energy security in Indonesia, Masdar has also partnered with PLN and state-owned oil company Pertamina on several renewable energy projects utilizing solar, wind, green hydrogen, and geothermal energy.

One of the projects being explored with PLN and Pertamina involves supporting the development of the new capital city (IKN) Nusantara in East Kalimantan.

"We hope the development of clean energy in IKN, with a capacity of 200 MW, can be completed soon," the Masdar CEO stated.

Meanwhile, Hartarto encouraged Masdar to explore additional opportunities for renewable energy cooperation, including nuclear energy, to facilitate the achievement of net zero emissions (NZE) by 2060.
